Pymble homes sit on big, shaded blocks behind mature trees, and most of them carry a century of paint. We prepare them properly, quote them fixed and finish them to last.
Award Painting has been painting houses like these since 2007. We hold Painting and Decorating Contractors Licence 222321C, carry $20M public liability insurance and quote every Pymble home after a walkthrough rather than from the street, because a shaded south wall and a sun-struck north gable on the same house need very different preparation.
The older housing stock in Pymble is mostly timber-trimmed brick: Federation and Edwardian houses with fretwork, turned posts, timber windows and deep eaves, then interwar brick bungalows with rendered bands and leadlight windows. The brick looks after itself. The timber does not. Window sills, fascias, barge boards and verandah posts fail first at end grain and joints, and that is where we spend the preparation hours.
The newer and renovated homes around Pymble bring a different list: large rendered facades, Colorbond and aluminium trims that need the right primer, cement sheet cladding and big expanses of interior plasterboard that show every roller mark under afternoon light. The product system changes with the substrate, and so does the price.
Pymble’s trees are the reason people move here and the reason paint fails early. South and east walls under canopy stay damp for weeks after rain, grow moss and mould in the texture of render and timber grain, and shed paint from the bottom up. Painting over that is the most common shortcut we are called in to fix.
Our approach on a shaded Pymble elevation is simple and non-negotiable: wash, treat with a mould-killing solution, let it dry properly, then prime and coat. We schedule shaded walls for the drier part of the job and leave the sunny faces for the days after rain. It adds a day or two to a program and years to the finish.
Most Pymble interiors we paint are occupied family homes, so the job is planned room by room. Floors are sheeted, furniture is grouped and wrapped, and each day finishes with rooms walkable. Ceilings and cornices are rolled first, walls follow, then doors, architraves, skirtings and picture rails in enamel with crisp cut lines.
Where period features survive, we treat them as the point of the room: timber panelling, high skirtings and plaster ceiling roses are prepared and finished by hand. Where a renovation has opened the house up to a big living and kitchen space, we use consistent sheen levels and the right roller nap so long walls read evenly in the strong light that Pymble’s north-facing rear extensions tend to get.
Pymble is a 10-minute drive from our base near Hornsby, so walkthroughs happen within days of your call and the crew that quotes the job is the crew that paints it. You get a start date, a finish date and a fixed price in writing, and if the preparation turns out to be heavier than expected, that cost is ours.
We also paint in Gordon, Turramurra, St Ives and Killara, so if you have seen one of our crews on a neighbouring street, that is probably why.
The craft
Sharp tape lines, clean brushes, the right product for the right surface. Small habits, repeated on every job, are what a premium finish is made of.

Questions
Anything else? Call us or send a message and we will give you a straight answer.

Every quote starts with a free walkthrough. We look at the condition of the existing paint, access, the number of colours and how much trim there is, then put a fixed price in writing with preparation, coats, repairs and access itemised. Preparation overruns are carried by us, not added to your bill.
Yes. Award Painting Pty Ltd holds NSW Painting and Decorating Contractors Licence 222321C and carries $20M public liability insurance. Both are shown on every quote and can be checked against the NSW Fair Trading licence register.
Rarely. Sound, well-bonded paint stays. Failing areas are scraped back to a firm edge, feathered, spot-primed with an oil-based primer and filled with flexible fillers. A full strip is quoted only where adhesion has failed across whole sections, and we will show you why during the walkthrough.
Almost always moisture and mould under the film. Shaded walls in Pymble stay damp for weeks, and paint applied over an unwashed or still-wet surface loses adhesion from the bottom up. The fix is a proper wash and mould treatment, drying time, a primer suited to the substrate and two full coats, with gutters and downpipes checked for leaks.
A full interior of a 3 or 4 bedroom home usually takes 5 to 8 working days. A full exterior takes 1 to 3 weeks depending on size, access and how much timber needs preparation. You get a start date and a finish date in writing, and the same crew stays on the job from the first day to the last.
A colour consultation valued at $275 is included free with every quote. We look at the orientation of each wall, the roof and brick colours you are keeping, the street and the light under your trees, then test sample boards on the house rather than choosing from a chip.
