Much of Beecroft is a heritage conservation area, and its Federation and interwar homes deserve painters who know what that means. We have been doing this work since 2007.
Award Painting has painted heritage homes across the Upper North Shore since 2007 under Licence 222321C with $20M public liability insurance. Every Beecroft quote follows a walkthrough and is fixed in writing, with preparation itemised so you can see what the age of the house is adding.
In a conservation area, the aim is to repaint in a way that respects the character of the street. Repainting in similar colours is generally exempt from approval; a significant change to the exterior scheme may need a council enquiry. Our free colour consultation prepares a heritage-appropriate scheme drawn from Federation and interwar palettes and can document it in a form suitable for Hornsby Shire Council.
Preparation methods matter just as much. We do not dry power sand old timber or blast soft render. Old fabric is cleaned, scraped by hand to a sound edge and primed with products suited to its age.
Beecroft’s older homes carry a century of paint on their timber, and anything applied before 1970 is treated as lead-bearing. That means wet scraping and sanding only, drop sheets sealed at the edges, waste bagged and removed and the site cleaned before the family returns to the area. Weatherboards, fretwork, posts and casement windows are scraped to a sound edge, feathered, spot-primed with an oil-based primer and filled with flexible compounds before two full coats.
Glazing putty that has shrunk away from the glass is cut out and replaced before sashes are painted. It is slow work, and it is the difference between a repaint that lasts three years and one that lasts twelve.
Not every Beecroft house is Federation. Post-war brick homes need trim repaints and the occasional rendered addition recoated; 1980s and 1990s houses bring cement sheet and height; and the townhouse complexes near the station need a committee-ready scope and a staged program. The same crew handles all of them under one standard of preparation.
Beecroft is about 10 minutes from our base near Hornsby. We also work in Pennant Hills, Epping, Thornleigh and Carlingford.
The craft
Sharp tape lines, clean brushes, the right product for the right surface. Small habits, repeated on every job, are what a premium finish is made of.

Questions
Anything else? Call us or send a message and we will give you a straight answer.

Every quote starts with a free walkthrough. We look at the condition of the existing paint, access, the number of colours and how much trim there is, then put a fixed price in writing with preparation, coats, repairs and access itemised. Preparation overruns are carried by us, not added to your bill.
Yes. Award Painting Pty Ltd holds NSW Painting and Decorating Contractors Licence 222321C and carries $20M public liability insurance. Both are shown on every quote and can be checked against the NSW Fair Trading licence register.
Repainting in the same or similar colours is generally exempt development. A major change to the exterior colour scheme may need a council enquiry, and heritage-listed items have stricter rules. We prepare a heritage-appropriate scheme as part of the free consultation and can provide a colour schedule for council if it is needed.
Only where paint has failed across whole boards. Sound, well-bonded layers stay; failing areas are scraped to a firm edge, feathered and spot-primed. A full strip is slower, harder on old timber and quoted only when the walkthrough shows it is genuinely needed.
A full interior of a 3 or 4 bedroom home usually takes 5 to 8 working days. A full exterior takes 1 to 3 weeks depending on size, access and how much timber needs preparation. You get a start date and a finish date in writing, and the same crew stays on the job from the first day to the last.
A colour consultation valued at $275 is included free with every quote. We look at the orientation of each wall, the roof and brick colours you are keeping, the street and the light under your trees, then test sample boards on the house rather than choosing from a chip.
