03Which sheen where

Sheen guide

Which finish goes where? Ask the house.

Every client asks this and few painters answer it properly. Sheen is the amount of light a paint reflects. Flatter finishes hide flaws and glare; glossier finishes take knocks and wipe clean. Move over any part of the house to see what we would use and why.

We would use

Living, bedroom and hallway walls

Low sheenWashable low-sheen acrylic

Low sheen is the sweet spot for most rooms: soft under lamplight, forgiving on old plaster, and wipeable enough for everyday marks. Satin on a big wall shows every patch and roller lap.

Hallways, stairs and kids' rooms get a premium washable grade of the same sheen, so the whole home still reads as one finish.

Unsure about a surface we have not drawn? Ask at your free colour consultation and we will specify the sheen for every surface in writing on the quote. Book a consultation
